Master Gardener TIP # 2

Finally feeling like spring here!
So here's my second seed-starting tip:
Mix clean sand or peat moss in with your potting mix for better drainage
for your seedlings. Better drainage will help prevent root rot and "damping off". You can start your seeds in almost anything, I like to use toilet paper tubes cut in half, and lined up in a tray. Empty washed yogurt containers make great "pots" for bigger seeds like squash and sunflowers.

  1. Great tips! I always have such a hard time with the damping off business. I will have to give this a try. Love too, the reusing the tp rolls!
